Description
Summary:
Helping Hands is a programme developed by Women’s Aid Northern Ireland for professionals working with children and young people. It addresses challenging issues around personal space, safety planning and awareness of acceptable and unacceptable behaviours, not only in others but also in themselves.
Duration: 10-2 pm
Training session dates: 21st February 2025 (via zoom)
What does the course cover?
Three themes are reinforced throughout the course:
1. We all have the right to feel safe all the time
2. There is nothing so small or so awful we can’t talk about it with someone
3. Others have the right to feel safe with us
NB Please note that this is not a course in which participants will be taught therapeutic interventions for children who are experiencing or have experienced domestic abuse. The course is educational and it draws on the theoretical perspective of protective behaviours.
Who is this training suitable for?
This course is suitable for experienced domestic abuse practitioners and also other professionals whose work brings them into close contact with children and young people affected by domestic abuse.
Please note that there is an expectation that only trained and experienced facilitators run the Helping Hands programme. Professionals can only order and re-order the materials for this course upon the completion of the facilitators’ training with Women’s Aid
